Morning Watchword: (Jeremiah 51) “The Utter Destruction of Babylon Draws Nigh”

“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, And great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans, 55 Because the Lord is plundering Babylon And silencing her loud voice, Though her waves roar like great waters, And the noise of their voice is uttered, 56 Because the plunderer comes against her, against Babylon, And her mighty men are taken. Every one of their bows is broken; For the Lord is the God of recompense, He will surely repay. 57 “And I will make drunk Her princes and wise men, Her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men. And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep And not awake,” says the King, Whose name is the Lord of hosts. Thus says the Lord of hosts: “The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, And her high gates shall be burned with fire; The people will labor in vain, And the nations, because of the fire; And they shall be weary.”

The word BABYLON may sound like an ancient term coming from a world and place of “times past,” but nothing could be further from the truth… The prophet Jeremiah was sent by God to warn His people not only of the impending danger and judgment coming against the enemies of his own day; but also warn about that which would occur in the End time. About God’s final judgment against what is identified in scripture as Mystery Babylon.

“And I will make drunk her princes and wise men, Her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men. And they shall sleep a perpertual sleep And not awake, says the Kind whose name is the Lord of Hosts.” Jeremiah 51: 57
“And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.” Revelation 18:5

Just “who is this woman” spoke about by Jeremiah and in the Revelation to John?

The Fall of Babylon the Great: Revelation 18

“After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried [a]mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the [b]abundance of her luxury.”

Babylon is no longer just an ancient land or location of an ancient people and civilization. BABYLON IS AN ENTIRE WORLD SYSTEM, which is “governed by the prince and power of this world.” Satan himself, who “came to deceive the whole world,” and has. (Ephesians 2:2) This system is located globally and dwells both within and outside of its citizens. It has no geopolitical boundaries or national divisions. We can be sure, according to all of Scripture that this kingdom has been created to REPLACE and come against the Kingdom of God, Christ, and His people. It is a system governed by lust, greed, fornication, false religion, adultery, merchandizers, foul spirits, the demonic and every UNCLEAN thing.

What Jeremiah teaches us, with no reservation of uncertainty, is that just as God sent His catastrophic judgment and destruction upon all of ancient Babylon, so will He also destroy the “god of this world” and all who have followed him into this Mystery Babylon at the End.

“Standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'” Revelation 18:10

A key verse for the wise to understand is that the people who watched -were “STANDING AT A DISTANCE.” They were afar off, as they watched her peril. People of God, if you have yet to — “Come out of her my people” and separate yourselves from the people and things that have “pledged allegiance” to this Beast and his image? You are actually a part of her.

If you are clinching to this life and still holding near and dear those who will not come out of their “sins and fornications” with this world? You can be assured that just as the “hour of testing” has come upon us and is still approaching – you will certainly share in her plagues and destined destruction. Nothing you do will provide you protection against the wrath of God except for your obedience to Him and His Word. This World (like His Church) has been and will be judged.

Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6: 17)

“The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And Seraiah was the quartermaster. 60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that would come upon Babylon, all these words that are written against Babylon. 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you arrive in Babylon and see it, and read all these words, 62 then you shall say, ‘O Lord, You have spoken against this place to cut it off, so that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but it shall be desolate forever.’ 63 Now it shall be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall tie a stone to it and throw it out into the Euphrates. 64 Then you shall say, ‘Thus Babylon shall sink and not rise from the catastrophe that I will bring upon her. And they shall be weary.’ ” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.” Jeremiah 51: 59-64

Jesus Himself finishes the words and prophecy for Jeremiah in His revelation to Apostle John in Revelation chapter 18. There can be no doubt that the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah and the Final Words of Christ in the “Book of the Apocalypse” are one and the same. Inextricably connected as is all of Holy Scripture:

For I have come in the volume of the book it is written of me.” Hebrews 10:7

Final Exhortations:

“Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the [e]communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10: 14-16

“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12
