There are times when God not only allows things to happen in our lives but even causes them to happen against our best planning, efforts, and intentions. David would learn this lesson over and over again as God’s king over Israel; and it is in these moments of awe and uncertainty that we realize our total lack of control, our helplessness, and total dependence on the mercies of an all-powerful God. We learn the certainty of His divine sovereignty over every aspect of His creation. May we never forget that we who belong to Him are His workmanship –and are subject to His lovingkindness as we are His judgments.
